Education and Certifications

Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Masters Degree Program

  • The academic program at Southwest Acupuncture College consists of 3,000 hours of training in acupuncture, herbal medicine, physical therapy, nutrition, and exercise/breathing therapy. The greatest number of hours are devoted to the study and practice of acupuncture and herbal medicine, with the balance of the hours completing the students' education in graduate level studies in Oriental medicine and Western science. Upon graduation, the college confers the Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM) degree.

  • Holistic Mastery: Joanne's master's program provided a holistic understanding of traditional Chinese medicine, delving into the profound concepts of Yin and Yang, Qi, and the intricate meridian system.

  • Clinical Expertise: Extensive clinical training empowers practitioners to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, honing skills under the guidance of seasoned practitioners. This hands-on experience ensures that practitioners bring practical wisdom and skill to every session.

  • Acupuncture Proficiency: The heart of this training lies in acupuncture, where students master the art of needling, point selection, and meridian theory. This ancient practice forms the cornerstone of an approach to restoring balance and promoting well-being.

  • Herbal Medicine Insight: Joanne's education equipped her with the expertise to navigate the world of Chinese herbal medicine, enabling her to create personalized herbal formulations tailored to individual health needs.

  • Diagnostic Precision: Advanced diagnostic techniques, including pulse and tongue diagnosis, allow practitioners to assess and understand the root causes of health imbalances, facilitating targeted and effective treatment plans.

  • Ethical Practice: Joanne's commitment to ethical and professional conduct is integral to my practice. This ensures that every interaction is grounded in respect, integrity, and the highest standards of care.

  • Integration with Modern Healthcare: Through an exploration of the integration of TCM with Western medical concepts, Joanne brings a comprehensive and collaborative approach to healthcare, combining the best of both worlds.

Joanne received basic training in the Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Techniques (NAET) from Dr. Devi S. Nambudripad, M.D., D.C., L.Ac, Ph.D, who discovered NAET and began extensive research and development for a new, effective approach to the diagnosis and elimination of allergies.

Joanne earned her certification for facial microneedling with the Procell device through a certified mentored Procell training program.

Joanne is also certified in cosmetic acupuncture, a non-invasive treatment that can help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. She received her certification in the Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture system under the instruction of Dr. Martha Lucas, a well known teacher, author and speaker in the world of Chinese medicine.
