Frequently Asked Questions About Acupuncture in Denver's Highlands

Below are answers to the questions patients ask most often about acupuncture, NAET, cosmetic facial acupuncture, and microneedling at Joanne's Denver Highlands practice. If your question isn't covered here, reach out directly and Joanne is happy to help.

What can I expect during my first acupuncture session?

Joanne starts every first visit with a conversation about your health history and what brought you in, then explains how the treatment works before beginning. The session includes a full evaluation and your first acupuncture treatment, designed to feel relaxing rather than clinical.

Does acupuncture help with pain management?

Yes. Pain relief, especially for chronic back, neck, joint, and headache pain, is one of the most common reasons patients come to see Joanne. Treatment plans are built around each patient's specific pain pattern rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol, and many patients notice improvement within the first few sessions. Joanne's Acupuncture page has more detail on her approach.

Is acupuncture painful?

Most patients feel little to nothing beyond a brief sensation as the needle goes in. The needles are hair-thin, nothing like the needles used for shots or blood draws, and most people find sessions relaxing enough to fall asleep.

How does NAET Allergy Elimination work, and is it safe for kids?

NAET combines acupuncture with kinesiology, or muscle testing, to identify sensitivities and retrain the body's response to them, often bringing lasting relief from allergy symptoms. It's gentle enough for children, including babies, and kids who aren't ready for needles can be treated with Sho-ni-shin instead. Joanne's NAET for Kids page has more detail on the pediatric protocol.

Is microneedling safe for all skin types?

Yes, microneedling is safe for most skin types. It's a minimally invasive treatment that stimulates collagen production using ProCell's advanced serums, promoting smoother, more even skin without surgery or downtime. Joanne assesses your skin during a consultation to confirm it's the right fit. Before and after care instructions are available under the Forms tab.

What are the benefits of cosmetic facial acupuncture?

Cosmetic facial acupuncture, done through the Mei Zen series, stimulates the body's own collagen and elastin production. Patients typically see firmer, smoother skin, a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, and lighter under-eye circles, without the needles used for injectables or a surgical facelift.

Are cupping and gua sha available as their own appointments?

No, cupping and gua sha aren't booked as separate services. Joanne adds them into an acupuncture session whenever they're useful, for tight muscles, stagnant qi, or general tension relief, so you'd book an acupuncture appointment and request cupping or gua sha when you arrive.

Where is the practice located, and what areas does Joanne serve?
